• The 1920s was a period of excess particulary when it comes to alcohol. During this period poeple were used to drinking for a lot of opportunities : not only did  they when they made a new acquaintance but also when they closed a bargain for instance . Alcohol was something really during??? because men used to drink from early in the morning until late at night. Drinking was a symbol of masculinity, to show you were a men you drank. During this period, women were victim of domestic violence from their husband. Unfortunalety there was  no divorce and no police either, because "domestic violence" did not exist" . Alcohol is part of the story of the united state because, people would drink whenever they wanted. Everybody used to drink, it was like a ritual such as the grog time. The roots of prohibition (explain)

  • National Prohibition in America outlawed the sale of alcohol under the 18th amendment to the Constitution in 1919.

During the 20s young women were among those who drank more, in conformity with the image of the "flapper".

It was not until The Great Depression (1929-1939) that American opinion turned against prohibition.

I think that Prohibition was one of the most profondly social reforms of the early twentieth century.

What about "before the 19th century? (à voir)

During the 19th century America started to become a nation of drunkers. People used to drink a lot and spend all their time in saloons. This kind of way of life became very dangerous and men started to beat their families.

Americans spend a lot of money in liquor, rhum and a lot of other alcohols. In the all world America started a have a very bad image and the country was always associated with alcohol. Alcohol was also the cause of a lot of accidents (explicitez) and it wasn't acceptable anymore. That's why the state adopted the 18th amendment which  made alcohol an illegal thing. That's when started the controversy of the prohibition

  • Some weeks ago, the movie "The wolf of wall street" realized by Martin Scorsese came out in theaters. That’s the story of a poor man who takes the initiative to go work in Wall Street. But after the fall of figure he goes work in a low price office. He makes money, money and again money! Sex, drug, alcohol and money are omniscient. This is a good criticizes of our society but there is too excess and it's too long. During three hours you will follow the true story of Jordan, The wolf of Wall Street.

    Best film ever.
